Instructions for submitting digital images for The BN Expediter

• Images should be scanned at 1200 dpi.
• You cannot take an image that is only 300 dpi to begin with, and “save up” to 1200 dpi. The image will still appear as 300 dpi no matter what you try to do to it after-the-fact.
• Black and White photos should be saved as grayscale images.
• EPS file format retains the best quality. Jpeg will give sufficient quality and is easiest to email.
• Digital Cameras need to be set on the absolute highest setting. Resolution is a concern with digital cameras, as most folks buy them with plans for web, and not print quality. As a guide, many cheaper cameras do 800×600 pixel at best, this photo should not be used larger then 2×3 inches.
• If the image is from a Kodak Photo CD, please send the “16 Base” file, which is 2048 x 3072 pixels. NOTE: This resolution should not be confused with the “16/Base” resolution which is only 128 x 192 pixels and used for thumbnails.
• Files must be from PhotoShop or another Raster based program. We cannot use photos that have been embedded into a word document
• What you see on your screen is rarely what you get once the image is printed, and it will vary from one output device to the next. You might think that “it prints well” on your end, but is that on a laser or an inkjet printer?
  If it is on inkjet, then the output from that may be deceiving as inkjet printers come equipped to do a special dithering pattern which basically blurrs out any jaggy edges or web-worm caused by digital cameras or lower rez scans. If the output is done on a laserprinter, set to 600 dpi or higher (and 100 lpi if you have the option) that will give you a truer feel for the actual print quality of the file.
• File names should be indicative of the photo (ie: “BN 7002 at Essex” etc.)
