This index provides an online list of Burlington Northern Freight Cars and work
equipment.
The list is compiled from a variety of sources: 1972 equipment diagram book #3, 1973
equipment diagram book #1, 1973 list of equipment owned (BN book), 1979 list of equipment
owned (BN book), 1981 equipment diagram book #2, 1991 official register of equipment
(Federal AAR yellow book), and the personal sightings/slides of Peter Ferch. This
list is inclusive from the beginning of BN operation to the merger to BNSF.
