Frequently Asked Questions
What do we do?
We publish a quarterly newsletter, The BN Expediter. It is usually 20 pages in length and provides pictures and articles about the BN and the BNSF railroads – the October issue contains color photos. Contributions from members are encouraged and welcomed. We also hold an annual convention at a city somewhere along the BN/BNSF/MRL systems. And of course we maintain this website, which you already knew.
How do I join?
You can join on-line or via regular mail. For detailed instructions, click here.
What does it cost?
Annual Regular membership dues are $25, Youth (16 and under) are $10. For those wishing to provide additional support, a Sustaining membership is available at $50 per year. Sustaining members get a free BN color calendar and are recognized by name in every issue of The BN Expediter.
How do I get back issues of The BN Expediter?
Your annual membership entitles you to all issues for that calendar year, no matter when you join during the year. Issues from years past are available for purchase from back issues.
What can I learn?
The BN Expediter has presented articles about equipment, history, locations, operations, infrastructure, videos, current events, modeling, business, and other writings on the BN, BNSF and MRL, just to name a few topics. It also has a question and answer section. In addition, the annual convention offers the opportunity to share information and experiences with fellow BN/BNSF/MRL enthusiasts and to learn about and experience the specific location of the convention.
Can I get help with my questions?
You can contact the Secretary or the Editor of The BN Expediter with specific questions.
Can I donate to the Friends of the Burlington Northern Railroad?
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the regulations and definitions of the IRS. We accept your donations, which may be tax-deductible. Go here for more information.
Does your archive have records of railroad employees?
No. We do not have access to employee information of any company associated with BN, BNSF or MRL. See the following link to search for genealogy information.
